Railways

The Preston to Southport line was completed in 1881. A branch line ran from Hesketh Bank to Mayor's boatyard. Most trains just carried goods, but for a while from June 1912 to September 1913 passengers were also carried. Then it was closed for passenger traffic, as numbers travelling did not justify continuance.
