The Parish Church of
HOLY TRINITY, TARLETON
Parish "Webzine" March 2005

A letter from The Church Wardens March 2005
Dear Friends,
We now officially know that the Institution of the Reverend Nicholas Edward Davis will be held on Wednesday 13th April 2005 at 7.30 p.m. He will be licensed by the Rt Reverend John Goddard, Bishop of Burnley. Following this service there will be a reception in the School Hall which will be arranged by the Parochial Church Council.

We were delighted with the support for the Raffle and Pre-Lenten lunch which was a very happy occasion.

As we enter the solemn season of Lent and take this time for reflection and examination of our own faith, we look forward to the Easter celebrations, which is the most important event in the Church calendar. We will be able to maintain the full range of services we have traditionally enjoyed here at Holy Trinity due to the marvellous support of our own, and visiting, Clergy.

The Annual Parochial Meeting has been arranged for Sunday 3rd April 2005 following the 10.30 a.m. Eucharist. This, of course, is prior to the Institution of Father Nicholas. It entails a great deal of preparation by us and we would like to ask particularly on this occasion, if you could make a special note of the time and date and join us in the School Hall to add your support to Holy Trinity.

Thank you again for your prayers, help and support which are greatly appreciated by us both.

Brian and Keith

Parish Visiting Group
If you know of anybody who would welcome a visit, either because they are in hospital, or because they are confined to their home for whatever reason, or because they are new to the parish, would you please fill in one of the slips at the back of the church and place it in the box or contact Pat Heap on 812991

News from the Social Committee
The Committee would like to express their thanks to everyone who sold or bought raffle tickets and also supported the Pre-Lenten lunch on Sunday 6th February 2005.
The total profit on the day was £537.00 and we thank everyone for their generosity and perseverance under difficult times, particularly after the call on everyone’s resources for the Tsunami appeal.
We have decided to use some of the money raised to purchase two industrial vacuum cleaners for use by the Cleaning Teams and are also investigating the feasibility of a new permanent access for the disabled at the north door. We shall keep you informed!!!

EVENTS and ACTIVITIES

Women’s World Day of Prayer
This annual service will be on Friday, 4th March 2005 at Tarleton Methodist Church (Church Road) at 7.30 pm. This year it has been compiled by the women of Poland. The theme is “Let Our Light Shine.”
Please try to support this event, which unites women from various Christian Traditions.

Annual meeting
Sunday April 3rd, after the 10.30 service, we have the Annual Parochial Church Meetings.
We elect the Wardens first. This year, we then elect the Deanery Synod Representatives (for three years) and one third of the PCC (also for three years.) The forms for nominations will be at the back of the church. To be proposed (or to propose) you must be on the electoral roll.

MOTHERS’ UNION: March
The MU Lent course “Walking into life” continues throughout this month on Wednesday mornings in the Parish Room after the 10 am Communion service.

The Family Service for this month will be held on Mothering Sunday, March 6th. Our Prayer Group will meet on Monday, 7th March, at 2.00 pm in the Parish Room.

On Wednesday 9th March at 7.30 pm Jenny Towers, our Deanery presiding member will be the speaker and we look forward to welcoming her to our Branch.

The afternoon meeting is on Wednesday 23rd March at 2.00 pm and it will be a Membership Service followed by a time of devotion for Holy Week.
Wishing everyone a Happy Easter. Pat Heap

Growing up Growing Out
Bishop Nicholas shares his vision of the mission of the diocese.

Our Mission

Growing up
Responding to the challenge of Jesus Christ, we seek daily to become increasingly the people God has called us to be, grounded in joyful thanks and prayer.

Growing out
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we daily seek to celebrate and share the healing love of God through worship, evangelism, education and service.

Our Vision
To grow in every community in Lancashire a vibrant, inclusive Christian presence, providing a spirituality accessible for all, and participating in God’ mission in the world.

Mission Action Plan Prayer

God of new beginnings
We pray that you will
Transform your church as you renew us by your love.

Give us vision for the journey
That we may travel light
And live increasingly by faith.

Inspire, enliven and empower us,
So that along the Way
We may be sustained by the life of Christ
In ourselves
In one another
And in the world. Amen

Prayer evening & Deanery Visitations
Bishop Nicholas will be explaining and launching the MAP process at each deanery visitation. He is strongly encouraging all members of PCCs to attend to share his vision. Our deanery date is Monday May 9th at Penwortham St Mary.

The Diocesan launch is at the Cathedral on Wednesday 2nd March with a Prayer Evening from 7 to 9 pm, led by Bishop Nicholas and Archdeacon John. “There will be freedom for us all to pray in our own way. Come and go as you please. Try to make this event a priority.”

Fair Trade Wine
According to a piece in The Observer, The Co-op is selling so much Fair Trade wine it occasionally has supply problems. I notice that there is now a Fair Trade Rosé. I’m not drinking in Lent, so the tasting report of this will appear in the May magazine – just in time for summer drinking!

EASTER MONDAY WALK
Park by the canal at Sollom to leave at 10.30 am to walk in turn by the Douglas, the Yarrow, the Lostock and Wymott Brook, before zigzagging into Bretherton for lunch at the Blue Anchor between 12.30 and 1 pm. Excellent food – but perhaps order the smaller portions! – changing real ales. Back by field footpaths and quiet back roads. Feel free to join us for lurch or to walk one way only. Queries? Ring Ian on 813267 or (on the day) 07767 638996.

TSUNAMI COLLECTION
We have sent £1500 to Christian Aid from Holy Trinity, All Saints and two Methodist Chapels. Thank you to all donors.

Didn’t this one make it to the ark?
“Mum, why can’t I see the prairie tortoise in church?”
“The prairie tortoise? What are you talking about?”
“Well Mum, every week the vicar says ‘Let us say the prairie tortoise’ and then we start ‘Our Father…’”
